Joining the vocal minority

It’s 2018 and I’m ready to leave the silent majority.

My girlfriend Jade is a good writer. She’s been writing blogs on and off for years. This year, to encourage her to write more consistently and share her work more widely I agreed to a blog-off. We will write as much as we can this year and see who can get the most hits!

I’m not a great writer. However, I have lots to say and those closest to me would tell you I’m quite outspoken. In large groups I tend to retract and become a passenger in conversations but hopefully this blog will give me an outlet to talk to people outside my inner circle.

I am not going to write about what I do professionally because I don’t think it will be particularly relevant to these ramblings, nor is it extremely interesting (and I don’t particularly want to lose my job over anything contentious I write on here!).

I will, however, go on about games, comics, movies and general nerd culture, hopefully bringing a couple of you uninitiated folk along for the ride. In fact, I think I want to speak to the guys and gals not part of the nerd-sphere the most. There are so many amazing experiences waiting in hiding for anyone willing to veer off the straight and narrow.

Sure, socialising at trendy bars and dining at hidden eateries will make you an interesting person – fact. But a healthy dose of science fiction and fantasy will do some good for your soul.

Don’t know where to start? Not to worry! Day-by-day, week-by-week, I’ll go through the latest nerdy news and break it down for you curious folk and help identify a few hidden gems that are hopefully right up your alley. Or, you can just have a read so that you’re extra interesting at your next outing to the trendy bar… “Hey guys, you ever heard of Star Wars?! It’s super rad. Totally going to be the next big thing.”

I’ll also keep you posted on how I’m faring against Jade. I’m not one for losing, so bookmark this page and check in occasionally. That would be swell.

Best wishes y’all.

Sean
