I’ve been pretty quiet on what films I’ve been watching lately. I have watched several – at home and at the cinema – but truth be told, it’s been a while since I watched anything that warranted commentary.
I did make it to the cinema to watch Ready Player One, and despite going in knowing it was no more than a popcorn-flick, I was disappointed. It just didn’t feel like a Spielberg film. I also watched Netflix’s The Outsider, starring Jared Leto and this was merely ‘okay‘. A cool look at recent Japanese history (rather than samurai and ninjas) , but nothing to get passionate about.
This past weekend, I finally got around to watching Wes Anderson’s latest film – Isle of Dogs. Again though, I was slightly disappointed. Isle of Dogs was meant to be a sure thing. I love some of Anderson’s films and his latest was getting rave reviews, but I thought it was average. Sometimes a little boring, too. I went with Jade, who was enamoured with the film but I just couldn’t share her enthusiasm. Soundtrack was cool, though!
The best films I’ve watched lately were actually a couple that have been on my backlog for a while now: Shawshank Redemption and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I definitely felt like a classic fool for not watching them sooner. I embarrassingly thought Shawshank Redemption was a thriller all these years…!
But with a few of the year’s biggest films coming out in the next few weeks, I’m exited to be… erm… excited! I want to feel the anxiety of hoping a film is great when I take my seat in a crammed cinema. With Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Solo and Jurassic World 2 just around the corner, I hope I can return to my My2BC with something interesting to say.
Best wishes y’all.
